Division 5 Asbestos Audit
Division 5 Asbestos Audit
Division 5 Asbestos Audits – Workplace Compliance Across Regional Victoria
Keep Your Workplace Legally Compliant

Under the Work Health and Safety Regulations 2017, Division 5 places specific legal duties on persons conducting a business or undertaking (PCBUs) to manage asbestos risks in their workplace. A Division 5 audit is a formal assessment of any workplace built or substantially refurbished before 31 December 2003, identifying the presence and condition of all asbestos-containing materials on site.
The audit forms the basis of two documents your organisation is legally required to maintain: an Asbestos Register and an Asbestos Management Plan. Both must be current, accessible to workers and contractors, and reviewed at least every five years.
When is a Division 5
Asbestos Audit required?

- Commercial offices, retail premises and shopping centres
- Industrial facilities, factories and warehouses
- Schools, childcare centres and healthcare facilities
- Local government buildings, depots and public infrastructure
- Aged care facilities and community centres
- Residential rental properties used for business purposes
.
What Does a Division 5
Asbestos Audit Involve?

Our Division 5 audits are conducted by licensed Asbestos Assessors. All samples are sent to a NATA-accredited laboratory for analysis. You can find out more about our standalone asbestos testing service if you need individual samples tested outside of a full audit.
- Systematic survey of all accessible areas for suspected asbestos-containing materials
- Sample collection and NATA-accredited laboratory analysis
- Condition assessment and risk rating of all identified materials
- Compilation or update of your Asbestos Register
- Recommendations for your Asbestos Management Plan
- Advice on signage, safe work procedures and contractor communication
Planning Demolition or Refurbishment?
If your planned works go beyond ongoing management and into demolition or significant refurbishment, you will need a Division 6 audit instead. This is a more intrusive pre-works survey required under the WHS Regulations before any demolition or major refurbishment commences.
After Removal – Getting Back to Work
Once asbestos removal works are complete on your site, ProCheck can attend as the independent assessor and issue an asbestos clearance certificate. We can also arrange asbestos air monitoring during removal works to verify that fibre levels remain safe for workers and neighbouring areas.
